Eagle Creek campground

Said to be the first campground build by the USFS, in the teens of the last century. The CCC put in major improvements (including this building) in the 1930s, but at least this part of the campground seems in disrepair. I was there in mid-June, so it should have been tourist season. I gather the building is still used for occasional functions, but I don't know why the campsites were closed. The area is just upstream from Bonneville Dam.

Which the fellow who works our land says we shouldn't remove, because it maintains a claim on the water! The arcane ins and outs of water law in the arid and semiarid US-- The crop in the foreground is soybeans, among the stalks of the previous year's milo. He (like most people now in this part of Kansas) practices no-till farming, which preserves the topsoil and makes a repeat of the Dust Bowl less likely. Plowing as Politically Incorrect--who'd a thunk it? ;) Smith Center, Kansas, USA.
