Thimbleberry

Rubus parviflorus . In bloom--no berries yet! The berries, when they arrive, consist of a cluster of tiny fruit shaped more or less like a thimble--hence the name. When ripe you can pop the whole "thimble" off the stem. They're sweet and perfectly edible, but they're so small it's a lot of work! You'd spend a day to pick enough for your cereal! Thimbleberry grows where it's wet enough all thru the US west. These plants are in the Sierra Nevada, but we used to have it in our yard in Seattle.
