Sylvilagus audobonii . Cottontail species ( Sylvilagus ) are probably the most abundant lagomorphs in North America. They look very similar to the European rabbit and also bear young that are helpless at birth, hence requiring a period of parental care. Unlike the European rabbit, tho, they don't build underground warrens--they typically nest in brush, altho they may use a burrow dug by some other animal. Colorado National Monument, Colorado.

Sylvilagus spp., probably Sylvilagus audubonii . This little guy was chowing down in our front yard. They're very common in our area, and pretty habituated to humans. The black thing at upper left is a drip line.

Desert cottontail rabbit (Sylvilagus audubonii) , near Knott Creek Reservoir, Pine Forest Range, Nevada, USA. This is _not_ with the telephoto! This little guy better develop some 'fraidness, or he's not long for this world!
