New wave-cut bench along the east shore of Washoe Lake, a result of high water levels and high winds this last season. The surf was cutting into stabilized sand dunes and vegetation cover that have been there for decades, so this hasn't happened in a while! The Yampa River runs in the canyon below. The prominent butte catching the light at the left-center is Haystack Rock. There used to be a road out to it, but it's now non-motorized traffic only.

Wave-cut bench on south side. Fort Rock is a broken ring of tuff deposits from an eruptive center that was submerged during the Pleistocene. Hence there are lots of surf-erosion features such as this.
