University of Nevada, Reno, USA. Now the Delamare Library, which holds UNR's science and engineering collections. Mackay ("mackey") was one of the handful who made a fortune on the silver of the Comstock Lode, and left much of his fortune to found the School of Mines. As you've probably guessed, that's his statue in the right foreground. Alas, MSM was reorganized out of existence in the early 00s, the departments now split among the schools of science and engineering. And it was the only part of UNR that had a degree of international recognition--not the brightest administrative decision!

Statue in Kellogg, Idaho, USA. The hillsides around Kellogg, barren from smelter fumes as late as the 1980s, have recovered and the area now hosts lots of upscale real-estate developments!
I think this is a copy of a sculpture on the north side of I-90 that memorializes the 91 miners killed by a fire at the Sunshine Mine in 1972. It was one of the worst mine disasters in US history.
