Fernstein Castle was first mentioned in 1288AD. It was a toll station until 1780. It is now part ruin, part hotel. It is located on the Fern Pass Road (Fernpassstraße).

This pass is quite impressive: 2504 meter at his highest point and about 40 turns; about 12 kilometers climbing at 12% and then about 12 kilometers of descent at the same percentage.
