Originally founded as a hospital in 1428 by Jan Dirc Coenenzoon and his wife Katrijn Willem Tedensdochter. Later it also became a almshouse and a house for care of the elderly. It was restored in 1970. It offers several houses and a palliative care centre, so 600 years later it still used as the founders intended.

Later it also housed the elderly and it functioned partly as an almshouse (until 1969). The hospital part stopped in 1773, It was restored in 1970. It is now a hospice.
