The rail operations at Stavoren used to be more impressive. From 1886 to 1936 railway carriages could be transported by boat from Stavoren to Enkhuizen: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stoomveerpont_Enkhuizen.jpg#/media/Bestand:Stoomveerpont_Enkhuizen.jpg In 1936 the Afsluitdam opened, so that road transport between Friesland and North Holland was possible.
