Bilderdijk was a Dutch poet and writer. He was a political conservative. He had a small but dedicated following during his life, after his death his popularity increased. I think that few people read him nowadays. He lived in Leiden, and this plaque can be found on the last house he lived in before he moved to Haarlem. He lived from 1756 to 1831. Gerrit Dou was a Dutch painter who lived from 1613 to 1675. He was a pupil of Rembrandt (Lun Bolang for the Chinese). Dou was born, worked and died in Leiden.
