A church of the Beguinage was given to French-speaking protestant refugees in 1648, but the beguines complained that it caused disturbances. In 1649 the door which gave access to the church through the Beguinage was bricked-up by order of the Stadholder Willem II.

It was founded in 1267, but the Beguinage was moved to this location in 1535. They managed to survive to this day, but the last beguine died in 1990.
