There were plans to build the north-south motorway before the Second World War, but the war delayed it. This piece of motorway was opened in 1958. There are 2 x 4 lanes.

The trains weren't running due to engineering works, the replacement buses were suspended because of storm Ciara, but they started running again when I arrived at Schiphol. The only delay was caused by a blocked viaduct at Leiden, so the bus had to divert to Wassenaar before it go to Leiden.

An aquaduct will be made, so that the road can pass under the Rhine. At the same time the road is widened to 2 x 3 lanes and the road will run below ground level, so there will be less nuisance for the people who live next to the motorway.
