From 1910 to 1912 this was the workshop of the carriage maker Willem Barthelomeus Uitenhout, which can explain the wheel gable stone. Willem Uitenhout lived from 1870 to 1927. He moved frequently in Leiden and he was declared bankrupt once in 1898. The house was bought on March 29, 1910 for ƒ 4570 and sold at a public auction on June 15, 1912 for ƒ 4650, probably a foreclosure. The advertisement said that the first floor was rented to students for ƒ 300.– per year. After the Aalmarkt, Uitenhout moved to the Garenmarkt 1.
