Mat’24 was designed in 1924 as the first electric trains of the Dutch national railways.

The castle dates from the 16th century. The last marquise, Suzanne Augustine de Coatanscour, was guillotined in 1794 by the French revolutionaries. After that, the castle fell into disrepair. Part of the castle was sold for its stone. In 1911 it was bought by the government and monument status was granted. The restoration was finished in 2005.
