Oikos

04 May 2014 5 338
Sometimes samples of new products are handed out to the public in front of Leiden Centraal Station. Oikos is a yoghurt of the food gigant Danone. Not a lot of people like straight yoghurt, so this yoghurt comes in four flavours: passion fruit, bilberry, peach and strawberry. Passion fruit and strawberry contain no fat, but all these yoghurts contain more than 10% sugar. Danone was founded in 1919. During the Second World War Daniel Carasso (the son of the founder and by then owner of Danone) moved to New York to escape persecution of the Germans. The American offshoot of this firm is called Dannon.
