Einstein used this pen between 1912 and 1921, the period when he worked on the theory of Relativity. Then he gave the pen to Ehrenfest.

Lorentz sent the confirmation of the theory of Relativity as a result of the solar eclipse of May 29, 1919 to Einstein in Berlin. The telegram was partly sent by normal mail, probably as the result of the aftermath of the First World War.
