Car registration papers came in three parts: one was about the car, the second was about the owner and the third part had to be renewed yearly and put behind the windscreen. There was also a copy of the third part, which had to be presented when the car changed ownership. Now all those parts are replaced by a single plastic card.

In the past you had to put this thing (part of your car registration) behind the windscreen and every year you would receive a new one. After a while nobody knew why this was necessary, so they abolished it.
