Elburg 2015 – Door

27 Dec 2015 190
Dates from the end of the 17th century. The building was a primary school from 1866–1909. The original Elburg suffered from floods in the Middle Ages. In 1392–1396 a new city was built further inland. It was built using a grid system. The city became also a stronghold. The church was only moved into the new city after completion, so the church is not in the centre of the city, but close to the city wall. Elburg was a Hanseatic city, but became poorer in later years, so the city is well preserved.

Originally a house for mr. Schimmelpennick, built in 1927, but after the war converted to a school. It still looked like a villa. It has an enormous cellar almost under the entire building. The building has undergone some renovation since I left in 1982.

The building has undergone some renovation since I left in 1982. This sign is from the old building of the school on the Willem Lodewijklaan. That building was destroyed during the war. A small piece of the wall of the old school has been put near the entrance.
