The history of this inn goes back to the times of Rembrandt. It is located on the spot were the road from Leiden to The Hague starts. Schouw derives from the verb schouwen, which means to see and also to inspect, so from this spot you "see" The Hague. Nowadays there are more roads from Leiden to The Hague, but not in the old days.
