Fire hydrant of the N.V. Holland – Bergen op Zoom

The foundry Holland of Bergen op Zoom is famous for producing a certain letterbox of the Dutch Post, so famous in fact, that the letterbox was named Holland. I cannot find the starting date of this company (probably 19th century), but it folded in 2001. See here for some pictures of the buildings still standing there: www.mosselstraat9.nl/Foto/RMI/index.htm And a small movie of demolition of the buildings: nl.youtube.com/watch?v=K4VrLt39diI An article in a Dutch newspaper with two former workers: www.bndestem.nl/regio/bergenopzoom/3635241/De-Holland-was... And here a link to the catalogue of the foreclosure auction: archive.dovebid.com/brochure/RMIH010918.pdf (PDF, 4.9 MB) At the municipal archive of Bergen op Zoom, many pictures can be seen of the foundry Holland: www.markiezenhof.nl/ (search on "ijzergieterij holland" or "de holland")

Another drain cover of the Overijselsche IJzergiet…

The Overijselsche IJzergieterij (translated: Foundry of Overijssel (= province in the Netherlands)) was part of the Koninklijke Industriële Maatschappij Noury & Van der Lande. Noury & Van der Lande was founded in 1839 as a paint factory. In 1913 they created the Overijselsche IJzergieterij as a subsidiary. The Overijselsche folded in 1941, but they already ceased production in 1927 after a cripling strike. This drain cover therefore must date from 1913-1927. It can be found on the grounds of the Academic Hospital, they are there from the time the Hospital was built. On most drain covers the name has faded, this is the only one with the name still visible. Noury & Van de Lande was one of the companies that formed AkzoNobel.

Ubbink still exists as a company, but it no longer produces sewer covers. The company was founded in 1896.
