Church Bridge

This old bridge stays down because further along the Old Rhine there is a low, fixed bridge, built in de early 1960s for car traffic, which blocks high boats. The low-fixed bridge also blocks access to and from the harbour for high boats. So this bridge is a remnant of the days when shipping was the most important mode of transport in Leiden. The bridge is open for maintenance. The last time I saw it was more than ten years ago.
