The Hoge Raad is the highest court in the Netherlands for civil, criminal and tax law. It only looks at aspects of law, it doesn't deal with the facts, as they have been established by the lower courts.

Superior Court of Justice

This courthouse dates from 1895. It was built as the Reichsgericht, the supreme court for civil and criminal matters until 1945. The Bundesverwaltungsgericht is the highest court for cases concerning administrative law.

Well, not exactly my day in court. The university (my employer) was subpoenaed by a company who claimed that we broke European procurement law, so today we had to appear for the civil court in The Hague. Sentence in two weeks. Taking pictures inside was not allowed. The court in The Hague also functions as a Court of Appeal. After the Court of Appeal you can go to the High Council, which is the highest court in The Netherlands. The High Council only looks at matters of law, the facts are to be established by the lower courts.
