It was thought that the Roman place name Lugdunum referred to a settlement where now Leiden is, but that was not true, Lugdunum was on the coast where the mouth of the River Rhine was. That didn't stop people (and the university) to use the name Lugdunum Batavorum as the Latin name for Leiden. This sign belongs to a football club.
