Lorain was founded in 1894 in Lorain, Ohio, USA. In 1964 it merged with the Thew Shield Company forming Thew-Lorain company. In 1967 Thew-Lorain is acquired by the Koehring Corporation. In 1987 Koehring is acquired by Northwest Engineering (which changed its name to Terex). The Lorain brand was discontinued then. Lorain was first to design a rubber-tyred crane in 1918.
