In the old days I had to buy travelcards, bus tickets, bus passes, zone extension tickets and such like. Now the whole thing is replaced by the Oyster Card.

This electronic card can be used all across the London public transport network. You load it with money and when you make a trip, it is deducted from the balance. You can also see what trips you've made.

This complicated and rather aweful-looking system for announcing the bus lines at Leiden Central Station is working again. The firm that originally installed the system went bust, so nobody could repair it when it broke.

In the 1970s municipal councils all over the Netherlands abolished urinals and public conveniences. They were not necessary anymore, because people were civilised. Now the streets are used as urinals.
