The church dates from 1271 and was originally a cloister church. In 1541 the Reformation reaches Halle and the bishop Albrecht von Brandenburg takes most of the interior away. In the following years it becomes a protestant church. The famous composers Samuel Scheidt, Heinrich Schütz and George Frederic Handel have played in this church. Handel was church organist in 1702–1703.

This looks Chinese. The two characters bottom left look like the characters for China, but I do not anything about it.
