Thrifted skirt remade into apron(?)

10 Mar 2009 168
I loved the fabrics and colors in this miniskirt for $2.99, but I'm not a miniskirt wearer these days. So I altered it with many rows of crochet to be a... well, a pull-over apron? Not really sure what to call it, but it's been fun to wear, anyway! Mostly thrifted yarns, no pattern, just winging it.

Circle skirt

This is made from what I THOUGHT was a bedsheet, but when I got it home from the thriftshop I realized someone had already cut it (and hemmed it) into a huge circle. So, a circle skirt it became.

This is the skirt I made from a thrifted tablecloth that probably used to be a bedsheet.

Sheet-swap tiered skirt

31 May 2008 167
I used one of my sheet remnants from Lisa's thrifted bedsheet swap to make my first tiered skirt ever--it's not perfect, but it's definitely wearable. The tan paisley was from the swap; the middle panel is from some yardage I got at a church rummage sale years ago. (Four fat quarters of that one are going to Oh Fransson's vintage linens swap.) The eyelet trim I bought, because I'm pretty bad at hems, as it turns out.... Oh--I mostly followed the pattern at this site, but only made three tiers and added the eyelet trim in place of the fourth, and put in a drawstring instead of elastic... www.jcarolinecreative.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Co... :

Daughter's skirt

She wanted to make a skirt too--we worked on it together (she sewed the hem, I sewed the waist and side seams). She liked this fabric because it has little scottie dogs all over it.

Thrifted sheet to skirt and blouse

16 Sep 2008 151
Sewing for Halloween already! These are both made from the same very lovely thrifted sheet. The blouse is from Simplicity New Look 6809--somewhat longer than the pattern, because I took advantage of the other existing hem of the sheet. This is part of my costume... more soon. (After Halloween, I'll probably dye these a more wearable color, or colors.)

Yellow floral bedsheet skirt

Made with a thrifted bedsheet, per Lisa C.'s instructions--part of Lisa's sheet swap!

Striped bedsheet skirt

30 Apr 2008 133
This is made from a thrifted sheet, with the addition of little fabric flowers in pink, red, and cream hand-sewed along the edge of the hem. The rest of this sheet is in Lisa C.'s swap. Sorry, the other parts don't have this fun edge!

Sheet pieces from swap

15 May 2008 130
The turquoise, pink, and paisley sheet pieces here arrived in the mail from Lisa's swap--can't wait to make skirts from them. The large brown-beige sheet in the lower left is one I thrifted while waiting for the swap to finish--because Lisa's created a monster here. But that'll make an interesting skirt too, no?

Thrifted green skirt, after

06 Mar 2009 219
Added a crochet insert along one of the curving seams, in green and purple; also added chained loops of the purple on the back of the ruffle, to hide the back of the anchoring stitches. Now it fits, and I like it a lot too!
