The paisley shapes started out as the nuclei of some squares for a collaborative afghan, but they wouldn't stay in the margins (just like a paisley!), and they kept growing until they looked ready to be a bag. All thrifted yarns, all acrylic worsted, except some metallic accents, and some beads, and some buttons.... lined with most of an old black jersey t-shirt. I know it looks wonky, but I like it anyway.

Crocheted by me, freeform (as if that's not abundantly clear). Except that the main section of the back is knitted by a friend, many years ago--she gave me a box of old wool and unfinished knitting, and I used this piece in my costume. Thanks Kathie!

Made with six freeform triangles...all kinds of random yarns.

Same basic structure--six triangles--slightly smaller than the last one, and in warm colors.

I crocheted this for myself this year, starting with the hat in March. No pattern, obviously! Just freeform and hyperbolic and some beading. There are starfish and sand dollars visible, the rest is more abstract...

My first (intentional) attempt at freeform crochet--I like it more than I thought I would. Like crochet collage, or crochet sculpture... hmmmm.... all thrifted or stash yarn (mostly thrifted).
