Crochet-altered top, after

How the crochet-altered top looked after alteration. This was a thrifted cotton sleeveless blouse--not my size, but I liked the mirrorwork and the print. So I cut out the side seams and crocheted in the gaps, and crocheted some cap sleeves after closing the sides. All yarn was also thrifted.

Thrifted white sleeveless blouse, upsized with crocheted inserts added at the shoulders and sides, and cap sleeves added after the inserts. Thrifted yarn, too.

Another quick fix--this thrifted blouse is a nice weight, and I like the pattern, but it didn't fit the way I wanted. So I cut down the center front and added a few rows of crochet. (I promise the hem edge is even in reality--the photo just doesn't show that well.)
Sheert

A sheert? Yeah, a shirt made from a sheet, or in this case, remnants of two vintage sheets. This is made with the Simplicity New Look pattern 6809, which I'll definitely use again--it was simple, it fits, it was forgiving of my carelessness, and it's a good shape for lightweight sheet fabric. And now I've made something with sleeves!
These sheet pieces were acquired in Lisa C.'s summer skirt sheet swap--thanks for the fun sheets! (yes, those are flamingos and palm trees)

Inserted some rows of crochet at the side and sleeve seams, to make this thrifted blouse fit more comfortably.
Thrifted sheet to skirt and blouse

Sewing for Halloween already! These are both made from the same very lovely thrifted sheet. The blouse is from Simplicity New Look 6809--somewhat longer than the pattern, because I took advantage of the other existing hem of the sheet. This is part of my costume... more soon. (After Halloween, I'll probably dye these a more wearable color, or colors.)

Longer view of the crocheted insert along the side seam of a thrifted blouse I altered for better fit (and also because it was fun). Thrifted crochet cotton, too.
