Felted Wool Vest
24 Mar 2010 |
|
Made from parts of three wool pullover sweaters (two LL Bean, one Old Navy), felted down and chopped up. The bodice was made using pattern pieces from New Look 6782 (which is meant to be used for making jersey tops). The whole thing was handstitched with wool thread (blanket stitch, exposed seams), and the edges of the bodice were also crocheted with the same wool.

I took the sleeves off this one, and opened up the side seams. Then filled in with a few rows of crochet, and added crocheted cap sleeves after closing the sides. Thrifted yarns.
Crochet-altered top

How the crochet-altered top looks on. This was a thrifted cotton sleeveless blouse--not my size, but I liked the mirrorwork and the print. So I cut out the side seams and crocheted in the gaps, and crocheted some cap sleeves after closing the sides.
Crochet-altered white blouse

Thrifted white sleeveless blouse, upsized with crocheted inserts added at the shoulders and sides, and cap sleeves added after the inserts. Thrifted yarn, too.
Crochet-altered sweater

This was a thrifted wool-blend pullover--I've had it for years, needed to freshen it up. Felted it a bit, cut it down the middle of the front, added crocheted trim and a button, now it's a cozy cardigan. Yarn also thrifted.
Crochet-altered blouse

Another quick fix--this thrifted blouse is a nice weight, and I like the pattern, but it didn't fit the way I wanted. So I cut down the center front and added a few rows of crochet. (I promise the hem edge is even in reality--the photo just doesn't show that well.)
Frankenblouse #1

I made this from two thrifted blouses that didn't fit me (used the sleeve trim and center panel from one top, solid colored sides and back from the other).
Grey Sweater, after

A thrifted grey sweater got a crochet inserts in the sleeves and center front, to make it fit and to make it personal. All yarn was thrifted as well.
Crocheted cap sleeve

I made a sleeveless blouse last month, but wasn't happy with it--but this week, I added crimson-red crocheted sleeves, and now I'm very pleased! Thrifted rayon yarn.
