Since I photographed this Xelabus Optare Spectra bodied DAF DB250 L131ELJ on 7 October 2014, it has lost its St Vincent College vinyls. In fact, browsing several pictures of the vehicle suggests that it carried those vinyls for only a short while. Today, it was back at ASDA Fareham on Freebus duties. This pleasing sight ticks so many boxes for me. I am a fan of both Xelabus and supermarket free buses not to mention many overall liveries. This Optare Spectra bodied DAF DB250 L131ELJ started service with Wilts & Dorset and was more recently with Velvet before arriving with current operator Xelabus. One of the joys of supermarket services is that the provider often uses a considerable number of its vehicles as my growing number of pictures now confirms. 200_2_P1000821

Dorset County Council operated Optare Solo YJ58PGZ on standby for Weymouth Park & Ride service at Mount Pleasant. There are countless excellent bus portraits online but photographs often benefit from a little background for context. I thought this gave an impression of the vehicle on standby - even though you can not see anybody the rudimentary accommodation on the left is in use. 200_P1050675C

Many bus photographs like this are purely documentary, designed to capture what was entirely ordinary at the time but which will be, one day, a memory and perhaps of some interest. At the time this picture was taken, Solos were being widely delivered to join Streetlites in First fleets across the UK. This vehicle, which was not displaying its fleet number, was a loan vehicle providing cover during warranty work on company owned vehicles. It is seen here stopping at Weymouth garage. 200_P1050602
