Þingvellir is associated with the Althing, the national parliament of Iceland, which was established at the site in 930 AD. Sessions were held at the location until 1798. This seems very strange when you see the wild setting. There is more than one site within the park where the flag flies but I think the flag and stone signify a spot where the Speaker led the parliament. 200_3_P1000870E
