The small but interesting Calshot Castle (c1540) has been in use since it was built. Although often repaired and altered, its overall appearance is broadly as it would have been in the 16th century. Between 1895 and 1900 a concrete housing was built to house three searchlights which were used to illuminate shipping approaching Southampton Water. None of the originals survives but there are two carbon arc signal projectors on display. They are from HMS Tiger and their size and shape is similar to searchlights of around 1900. TZ70_P1000264R
