As the pandemic continued to force cruise ships to wander without passengers between ports and sea, Norwegian Bliss had some surprisingly long stays at Southampton. On this occasion, she had arrived on 2 March. 5300_DSC_2621E

The latest pandemic wanderer to berth at Southampton's City Cruise Terminal was Norwegian Encore which is jaw-droppingly tall. I felt an extra pang of anguish to see such a large ship without all the buzz of a passenger-filled departure around her. Goodness only knows what will remain of the cruise industry after we have finished being bounced around by the virus and the ever-changing reactions to it. On berth 104 is the NYK vehicles carrier Volans Leader. 5300_DSC_2568E

Norwegian Jade at Southampton, berth 101 with the Veolia waste disposal vessel 'Seagreen' alongside. Norwegian Jade had arrived from Le Havre on a positioning cruise from Miami. Before the return cruise to Miami at the end of September, she will sail from Southampton and Hamburg on various itineraries. The first port on the first of those cruises was St Peter Port, Guernsey. 200_3_P1050543

NCL 'Norwegian Sky' at Port of Miami prior to departure on a Bahamas cruise. Short cruises, especially to the Bahamas seem to feature at Miami with longer itineraries often starting from Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) to the north. As a consequence, Miami sees more of the older ships with fewer balconies but this will begin to change with the February 2014 arrival of 'Norwegian Getaway' which I photographed in Southampton and which currently features on roadside billboards in South Florida. Today's shots at Miami were into sun and this was taken from a moving car in which, I hasten to add, I was a passenger. 200_P1000380C

It was scheduled to be in port on the 15th and 16th also with intermediate sailings prior to departing for its Miami base from which it will sail Caribbean itineraries.
