Eurodam leaving Port Everglades - 11 March 2018

15 Mar 2018 113
Sunday 11 March 2018 saw no fewer than seven cruise ships at Port Everglades. My previous efforts with port photography had left me rather subject weary and the lighting conditions - into sun for much of the day - discouraged me from attempting a group shot or any photography from the 17th Street bridge. Instead, I waited patiently for the evening's departures. The third ship to depart was the Holland America Eurodam, bound for Half Moon Cay. 200_3_P1050017CE

A Portrait of Port Everglades (11) - 4 March 2018

This picture is part of a new series depicting Port Everglades, the busy port of Fort Lauderdale. As is usual with ports these days, access is not easy and viewpoints are limited. My pictures, then, are by no means all portraits, as I would prefer, but a record of the port at work. Eurodam and Costa Deliziosa were two of the four ships which stayed the day. Berthing and sailing information is as follows: Eurodam, berth 21, arrived from Key West, departing to Puerto Plata Costa Deliziosa, berth 19, arrived from Cozumel, departing to Nassau 200_3_P1040672RC

On the first weekend of March 2018, the Sunday was slightly quieter than the previous day but this view still features four ships. They are (l-r) Holland America Eurodam, Costa Deliziosa, the homeported Allure of the Seas and Regal Princess. Avenue of Ships (reprise) - 30 January 2014

St. Maarten is a wonderful destination frequently visited by cruise ships in large numbers. They make an impressive sight as I noted in on an earlier visit on 23 November 2011. On this occasion, four of the six ships present were RCCL Freedom of the Seas (front, right), Celebrity Summit (front, left), Holland America Maasdam (rear, left) and Holland America Eurodam (rear, right). 200_P1000928

On another busy day at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, a pair of Holland America ships were the last of six to arrive. Eurodam (on the right) had arrived from San Juan and Maasdam from Fort Lauderdale. Just glimpsed on the far right is RCCL Freedom of the Seas. 200_P1000924

Eurodam at San Juan - 29 January 2014

There are many intersections in the lives of cruise ships and that it is one of the reasons I like so much to follow them. When we visited San Juan on 22 November 2011, we were on Celebrity Silhouette (seen on this cruise at Port Everglades) and Eurodam was berthed nearby. On this occasion we had arrived on Eurodam from Half Moon Cay and the other ship in port was Freedom of the Seas. Both ships would leave Puerto Rico in the evening for St. Maarten. 200_P1000814

'Keyboardhead', by Rik van Rijswick, keyboard keys and ceramics. Explorations Cafe, Holland America Eurodam (in port at Grand Turk). This was a very difficult shot to take in terms of reducing reflection on the case. 200_P1000766

Eurodam at Grand Turk (5) - 28 January 2014

I recognise that my pictures of cruise ships can seem very repetitive but I am trying to satisfy two objectives. As previously stated, I hope to photograph every cruise ship in every port it visits. I am also trying to come up with some views which go beyond the formal and predictable, views which both document and please the eye. The Holland America Eurodam was at Grand Turk on the first of four island calls on The Jazz Cruise 2014 which originated in Fort Lauderdale. As our first port of call on this cruise and a very beautiful destination, it excited me quite a bit. 200_P1000724

While boarding was under way at Port Everglades, the decks of Holland America Eurodam were quieter than they would be at any time in the following week. On this cruise, The Jazz Cruise, the ship visited Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Maarten and Half Moon Cay. 200_P1000581
