To explore disused railways is fascinating; to discover them unexpectedly a delight. In Swindon, I found remains of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway. Following guidance from some helpful locals I made my way to Station Approach and Old Station House. From there I was redirected to the trackbed below which is partially obscured by the present day Central Trading Estate. The route from the erstwhile Swindon Town station towards the main line is marked by the Old Town Rail Path as indicated on this lovely fingerpost.

To explore disused railways is fascinating; to discover them unexpectedly a delight. The first evidence of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway in Swindon which I came across was a bridge across Evelyn Street. having accessed it from Marlborough Road, I was able to see the view towards Marlborough.

From that bridge, following the former trackbed towards Marlborough, the footpath today descends towards road level and I took one look back, towards Swindon Town as I reached the end of my walk.

To explore disused railways is fascinating; to discover them unexpectedly a delight. In Swindon, I found remains of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway. Following guidance from some helpful locals I made my way to Station Approach and Old Station House. The accountants Haines Watts who occupy the building today record it as former offices of the M&SWJR. As far as I can tell, Swindon Town station was below as this is some way above the former trackbed.

The first evidence of the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway in Swindon which I came across was the bridge across Evelyn Street, viewed from Marlborough Road. The route is accessible from the left of this picture and from there I was able to trace part of it further towards Swindon centre.
