Canadian Warplane Heritage_051 - 11 May 2019

Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, Mount Hope, ON Lancaster KB726 VR-A On an unexpectedly sunny day, I was able to return to the wonderful Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum nearly seven years after my first visit. The Lancaster, which has toured the UK with our own PA474, was flying on pilot training sorties and, after each departure, making modestly exuberant flypasts of the museum area. One could not help but be moved. To see either of the two surviving, airworthy Lancasters flying is a great privilege. Although I am quite pleased with the composition and lighting of this picture, it is technically disappointing as the bright sun drove up the shutter speed and 'froze' the props; in the shot, the aircraft is taxiing in from the first sortie. 200_3_P1100874CE

The Twilight of the 23cm (Mono) - 13 November 2013

Sometimes, a photograph just looks right, perhaps more so when it means something to one which is difficult to convey to a wider audience. The 23cm radar at Heathrow has been withdrawn from use and its site is earmarked for development but still it stands. This original sepia-effect version of this was SOOC (although the format is, of course, a crop). It is a very long shot from the north side of the Bath Road. I rather liked the glinting car in the foreground and wanted to see the whole in b&w. P1190062CM
