The first morning of the 2019 Cathedral City Balloon Festival was the first event of its kind I have been to. The preparations for flight by the many participants were quite protracted but, when they launched, the spectacle was worth the wait. The launch area, a building site for new homes, was well lit by a rising sun but the direction of flight took the balloons towards the sun. In this inevitably backlit shot of no fewer than nine of the balloons, I think the construction equipment adds to the atmosphere. 200_3_P1110922CE
