Something a bit out of the ordinary on my latest visit to Cornwall Airport Newquay was this replica V-1 at Replica Aircraft Fabrications.

A rather less than classic picture of B737-800 VP-BQR at Cornwall Airport Newquay in the colours of Malaysian airline Love Fly. I understand this is or was to be their second aircraft as 9M-MJI.

ZD704 at Newquay - 22 July 2020

Former RAF BAe 125 CC3 ZD704 at Cornwall Airport Newquay. This aircraft was damaged beyond repair in a severe hail storm at Kandahar on 23 April 2013 and later repatriated. It is not clear to me if it is part of the collection of the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre. It has previously been displayed amongst their other aircraft but on this occasion it was tucked away the back of the site.

It is not particularly easy to photograph aircraft stored at Cornwall Airport Newquay so there is a degree of compromise in what I take and post. Reported as arriving in June 2020, two Interjet A320neos did not get as far as taking up their Mexican registrations and are now marked VP-CCT (nearer camera) and VP-CCS.

Thomas Cook aircraft arrived at Cornwall Airport Newquay in October 2019. It is not entirely surprising to see them still there as any plans for disposal would have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. However, I understand that the two A330s had a brief stint with the Danish Sunclass Airlines before being returned to Newquay, although they are still in full Thomas Cook colours. The two Interjet A320neos are more recent arrivals having, apparently, never taken up their intended Mexican registrations. All these aircraft are now on the Cayman Islands register and, from camera, are VP-CCT, VP-CCS, VP-CCH, VP-CCO and VP-CCP.

The forward section of Avro Lancaster KB976, once flown as G-BCOH, is at Replica Aircraft Fabrications at Cornwall Airport Newquay. The company is reported to be hoping to construct an entire Lancaster from parts sourced from around the world.

Avro Shackleton WL795 (2) - 22 July 2020

Avro Shackleton WL795, seen at Cornwall Airport Newquay, was formerly the gate guardian at the then RAF St Mawgan and has been the subject of an unsuccessful restoration appeal. Although currently displayed adjacent to the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre, I don't think it is directly associated with it.

Model Helicopter (2) - 22 July 2020
23 Jul 2020 |
|
The story behind this picture dates back to 22 October 1993 (below) and is a little uncertain. In the photograph below, I was at Lands End (the attraction, not the airport) and photographed what I took to be a model of Cornwall's (first) air ambulance. The registration is spurious and was actually carried by a Sikorsky S-76A although the air ambulance provider until 2014 was Bond Helicopters. The first of two Bo 105s was G-AZTI. It is possible that the machine now at Newquay is the same helicopter (model or otherwise) - I have seen decommissioned helicopters with rotor blades of radius before which, presumably, makes transport easier.
Cornwall Air Ambulance was introduced in 1987 so perhaps by the time of my 1993 picture, this was, in fact, the withdrawn first aircraft? To add a little further uncertainty, the area of Cornwall Airport where my 2020 photographs were taken is, I understand, associated with producing models as gate guardians.

A Sad Last Look at Thomas Cook (3) - 24 October 20…
25 Oct 2019 |

My visit to Newquay today was, primarily, to see the Thomas Cook aircraft which had been moved there after the sad collapse of the business. There were five aircraft in the care of Apple Aviation, 3 x A330 and 2 x A321.
The two A330s here are G-CHTZ with G-TCXB.
