Banksy at Barbican (1) - 28 July 2019

06 Aug 2019 1 73
According to an article in The Guardian, dated 17 September 2017, two murals appeared at Barbican as a prelude to an exhibition there by Jean-Michael Basquiat. Banksy confirmed these as originals on his Instagram account. This piece is captioned “Portrait of Basquiat being welcomed by the Metropolitan police – an (unofficial) collaboration with the new Basquiat show” and appears to be an homage to Basquiat’s 'Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump', one of his most famous artworks. I am not sure about the leaping, skateboarding figure which might have been added by an admirer (or detractor) but, interestingly, does bear one of "Basquiat's" crowns, TZ70_P1000432R
