The end of the rail portion of the journey of the St. Kitts Scenic Railway is a turning loop near Sandy Point and St. Kitts Eco-Park. The workhorse LYd2 class locomotive will receive some attention from the driver before returning to Needsmust. 200_3_P1100164R

Parsons Estate The St. Kitts Scenic Railway was built (1912-26) to facilitate the transportation of sugar cane from the island's estates to the factory at Basseterre. The largely ruined estates are marked today by the remains of windmills and chimneys. I found these pleasing architectural remnants reminiscent of the landscape of Cornwall where abandoned tin mines are marked by similar features, usually chimneys and pump houses. Geogtagging approximate. 200_3_P1100149C

Lovers Beach The open-sided top deck of the passenger cars on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway afford many opportunities for photography. I am pretty sure the guide told us that this St. Kitts beauty spot is called locally Lovers Beach but online searches lean towards the formally named Lovers Beach on neighbouring Nevis. In addition to the (reported) three LYd2 class locomotives on the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, there are two smaller Hunslet locomotives, numbered 14 and 15 at the depot. I was allowed a look around before our trip and it is a wonderland for the enthusiast. 200_3_P1100130

I didn't get a chance to take a good look at this crane, at Needsmust station, St. Kitts Scenic Railway as the train was preparing for departure but it does appear to be quite old (1960s?). 200_3_P1100119CE
