Records of mediaeval battles are often vague or inaccurate and the exact details of the Battle of Tewkesbury (4 May 1471) are not known for certain. However, that battle took place in meadows to the south of Tewkesbury Abbey and the River Swilgate and today's Vineyards are known to be part of that area. On the so-called battle monument, only one of the four plaques (seen here on the right) actually commemorates the battle. Three others record other matters of historical note. 200_3_P1030326
