The area north of the Thames between Blackfriars and Southwark bridges has suffered more than most the ravages of post-war architects. Much of what is there offends the eye without being, strictly, brutalist. Perhaps we could define it as neo-brutalist or some other trite neologism. One building which has at least some redeeming features is Sir John Lyon House at 8 High Timber Street which has serviced apartments by Clarendon. This view is from Tate Modern. I might as well have two rants in the space of one so I will explain the late posting of this photograph, taken on 29 March 2017. My attempts to identify the building shortly after I took the picture were frustrated by a complete lack of clarity in various online posts featuring this area and, in particular, the adjacent Broken Wharf House. I returned to the area on 16 May 2017 and put in the footwork necessary to be sure of my facts. As it happens, Broken Wharf House, partially visible to the left of this picture, was indeed broken or, presumably, a commercial failure as all the street level glazing was boarded up. 200_2_P1150525E
