A Portreath Landmark - 14 February 2017

A visit to Portreath was deeply fascinating as much for what used to be there as what is there now. The Portreath Incline was the arrival route for the Portreath branch of the Hayle Railway which opened in 1837. This beautiful bridge carried the railway over Glenfeadon Terrace a little short of the end of the line. A photograph from the early 20th century shows the railway which closed in the 1930s and was lifted completely in 1945. It is planned to restore public access to the incline as a footpath. 200_2_P1150117
