G-ZBAG at Luton - 12 July 2014

Luton is not the easiest place for aircraft photography so I picked my spot and stayed near it capturing mostly Wizzair A320s. Here however, Monarch A321 G-ZBAG is seen taxying in from RW26.

The rather severe looking Luton Airport Parkway station seen from Kimpton Road. The station opened as long ago as 1999 but the Kimpton Road entrance, accessed via a path across former Vauxhall car parks, opened only in April 2013.

Detail of Hart House - 12 July 2014

However unexciting a destination in prospect, I am often surprised and pleased by what I find there. With my photography encompassing a wide range of subjects, I do not spend enough time on architecture although I am inspired by the work on Flickr of Andy McGeechan amongst others.
I was very attracted by Hart House in the much altered Vauxhall site in Kimpton Road, Luton and opposite Wyvern House (previous picture). It is a Grade II listed building, built in William and Mary style. The classic architecture is powerful and enduring but, as with many old buildings, it is the detail, such as this griffin, which fascinates. Originally the headquarters of Vauxhall Motors and dating from 1907, the building is now a Business Centre which accommodates the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce and the Registered Office of London Luton Airport Limited.
