My series of 12 September 2016 [qv] recorded the arrival at Solent Airport of Ryan SCW-145 VH-SCW. Steve Carter's beautiful aircraft spent the winter in Hangar B wearing sensible clothing. 200_2_P1150921E

VH-SCW at Solent Airport (23) - 12 September 2016

26 Oct 2016 118
Having been shown at Goodwood Revival the previous day (and having won a prize in the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation) this magnificent Australian registered Ryan SCW-145, VH-SCW arrived at Lee on Solent where it intends to stay until May 2017. Pilot and owner Steve Carter and his wife and co-owner Veronica were greeted by members of Lee Flying Association. The 1938 aircraft with a Warner Scarab S50 engine had a long history before a crash in California in 1989. It was flown by Steve Carter at Fresno in 2012 and subsequently shipped to Victoria, Australia where a substantial refurbishment included rectification of some of the repairs which had allowed it to fly in 2012. An invitation to Goodwood Revival led to VH-SCW being shipped to Southampton and reassembled in the UK. 200_2_P1130993C
