Harmony of the Seas leaving Port Everglades - 10 M…

The procession of cruise ships escaping a cloudy Fort Lauderdale continued as the homeported RCCL Harmony of the Seas, the third of five departures, headed for Charlotte Amalie.
Harmony of the Seas is due to move along the coast to Port Canaveral in May 2019 as part of a wider shuffle by Royal Caribbean.

A Portrait of Port Everglades (5) - 3 March 2018

This picture is part of a new series depicting Port Everglades, the busy port of Fort Lauderdale. As is usual with ports these days, access is not easy and viewpoints are limited. My pictures, then, are by no means all portraits, as I would prefer, but a record of the port at work.
In this shot, three of the day's six cruise ships are visible, six being typical of a busy day at Port Everglades. They are (l-r) Harmony of the Seas, Crown Princess, and Carnival Conquest.
Berthing and sailing information is as follows:
Crown Princess, berth 02, arrived from Bonaire, departing to Basseterre
Harmony of the Seas, berth 18, arrived from Labadee, departing to Labadee
Carnival Conquest, berth 04, arrived from Puerto Plata, departing to Eleuthera

Harmony of the Seas - 26 May 2016

Bright, hazy weather well into the evening made for challenging conditions as I used my humble bridge camera at its limits after a patient wait for Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas to leave Southampton Water and make her way past the Isle of Wight. I took the unusual step of shooting in HDR mode and additionally processing with a little HDR to get some sort of contrast.
Harmony of the Seas was under way to Cherbourg on the second of two short cruises undertaken before a final departure (on 29 May) to her summer home port of Barcelona.

Harmony in Black & White - 26 May 2016

This highly experimental shot attempts to bring a different approach to photographs of Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas of which there were, undoubtedly, countless thousands during her comings and goings around Southampton in May 2016.
On the bright, hazy evening of 26 May, she sailed for Cherbourg on the second of two short cruises prior to departure for an inaugural summer season home ported at Barcelona. She is seen in a long shot from Lee on Solent as she made her way out of Southampton Water.

At the time of posting, Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas is the largest passenger ship in the world. She arrived at Southampton from St Nazaire on 17 May 2016 and was due to undertake three short voyages before a final departure from the port to her summer season home port, Barcelona, on 29 May 2016.
It is no exaggeration, nor is it intended to sound immodest, to say that I am thrilled with this picture. The light was kind and my FZ200 never lets me down. Harmony of the Seas is seen at berth 101 with the Veolia waste disposal vessel Seagreen in attendance.
She does not immediately evoke the adjective 'attractive' but she certainly is impressive even when necessarily viewed from astern and is more attractive I think than, say, Norwegian Epic. Her visit sends to the cruise business an important message that Southampton can accept and handle well the world's largest ships.

The imposing presence of the ship at berth 101 and viewed across the city's Mayflower Park in juxtaposition with a Land Rover and caravan, makes this picture the perfect candidate for a rare addition to my 'When Worlds Collide' series within my 'Cruise Ships' album.

Even allowing for perspective, her size is more than evident when viewed with the container ship MSC Istanbul which later left for Antwerp. The car park of Mayflower Park is often busy but on this occasion the activity could be attributed mostly to the presence of Harmony of the Seas.
