After Zany Zebras_011 - 1 November 2016

Zany Zebras was a large scale public art event organised by Marwell Zoo and held in and around Southampton from 16 July to 25 September 2016. The 47 full size zebras from the event were auctioned on 18 October 2016 at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl and subsequently made their way to new homes. At least three arrived in Lee on Solent making it fairly easy for me to start my inevitable 'After Zany Zebras' series. One of a pair at one house is Bunty (Let's Go Fly A Kite!) by Sarah Rosie. 200_2_P1140442

Following the success of the public art event Go! Rhinos in the summer of 2013, Marwell Zoo brought Zany Zebras to Southampton in 2016. In preparation for the event, some of the chosen artists decorated their zebras in a shop in the Marlands Shopping Centre in Southampton. It was possible to view the sculptures closely and to chat to the artists. For me, this was an exciting start to what should be a challenging photographic project. This is a detail of Sarah Rosie's zebra. Sarah is the daughter of Will Rosie. 200_2_P1090205
