The photographs in my new album 'A Follower of Fashion' document the developments at the Palm Springs site formerly occupied by the Desert Fashion Plaza. Its demise was captured in my 2013 'Out of Fashion' albums. I felt that progress seemed very slow and recalled my shock on my return in 2014 to see that nothing of substance had happened at the site. Media reports suggest that disputes involving local authorities and other interested parties have contributed to the delays.
The Museum Market Plaza is now under construction although first-phase operating dates in early 2016 seem optimistic. The development will house a Kimpton hotel and retail and mixed use space.
I have a great interest in documenting construction projects especially in my home area in the UK as they involve often huge changes to the places we know and the past disappears without a trace. The intermediate phases are, by their nature, transient and, therefore, important to capture. The photographs inevitably lack compositional finesse but are, I hope, a worthwhile record of the sites I visit.
In this view from N Palm Canyon Drive, the most advanced part of the construction can be seen on the NE corner of the site.

While the banner on N Palm Canyon Drive proclaims the vision, the background is, for now, the reality. We'll see what it looks like one year from now.

This view east along the line of Tahquitz Canyon Way, the southern edge of the development, reminds us of the old, as depicted in my original albums [qv], but now shows part of the new construction in the background.
