Saying Goodbye to a Friend - 16 May 2015

I have already documented the recent demise of the Fareham branch of London Camera Exchange but, today, I reinforce my sentiments with an unobstructed shot of the vacated premises. The closure of this shop led to job losses which are a tragedy for people I really liked. The staff here were courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. The UK needs its specialist camera shops and this closure was a loss to those and to Fareham town centre. 200_2_P1040706

Dead on Arrival - 30 April 2015

In one of my occasional 'hybrid' photographs, UK Specialist Ambulance Service Renault Master AY15AKF/015 is seen outside the recently closed London Camera Exchange in West Street, Fareham. My hybrid photographs combine two or more of my interest subjects (usually with their own albums), in this case Emergency Services Vehicles and Retail History. The closure of the Fareham branch of LCE - the rest are trading normally - is a subject particularly apposite to a photo-sharing site and one close to my heart. The staff there were never less than courteous, helpful and knowledgeable and now, tragically, they are redundant. My heart aches for them. In the wider context, it is increasingly difficult to buy a camera face to face in a specialist shop where one can handle a prospective purchase and receive good quality advice. The closure of this branch of LCE is a loss to both its employees and the camera buying public. 200_2_P1040586C
