Highcliffe Castle near Christchurch in Dorset is a surprise in many ways. Built as recently as 1831-6, it was damage by fires in 1967 and 1968 and declined to become a ruin for many years before a restoration which started in 1994 and was completed in 2008. The original construction used stone from several sources. The Latin inscription seen here is a quotation from the Roman poet Lucretius. 200_2_P1020028
